Foods to Avoid When You Have Asthma


When you have asthma, it is not enough to avoid staying in dirty or dusty surroundings. You also have to avoid foods that are known triggers of asthma. There are so many kinds of food that trigger asthma. Most of these foods are being eaten or taken in every day without knowing that they can trigger an asthma attack which sometimes becomes fatal.

Most foods that cause the attack are those that a person is allergic to. It is a common understanding that the food allergy triggers asthma symptoms, and that these symptoms become intolerable which develop into an asthma attack. You might be surprised to find out that the most common food that you eat everyday can possibly cause an asthma attack.

This is the reason why, knowledge on what foods are most likely to trigger an asthma attack would help any asthmatic person for that matter. Asthma is a silent killer, and any act of prevention to avoid an attack would greatly benefit the person. Foods that must be avoided should be taken into consideration most of the time.

The dairy products that you consume everyday can be a cause of an asthma attack. These particularly include ice cream, yogurt, and milk. Other dairy products also produce the same effect. In fact, these dairy products can cause wheezing and coughing in asthmatics.

Some more foods that are known as culprits are eggs, citrus fruits, wheat, and soy products. Eggs have always been limited or prohibited for persons who have asthma. Citrus fruits, which have more or less hairy parts, are also prohibited for asthmatic persons. Wheat and soy are also triggers.

Those foods that have undergone processing are also not advised for consumption by asthmatic persons. Although there are those who still eat these kinds of foods, it must be understood that consumption of such must not be frequent.

Your favorite nuts must also be limited if you have asthma. Nuts are undeniably delicious however, when you have asthma, an intake of nuts could trigger an attack. So nuts must also be avoided.

When you have asthma and you try to avoid these kinds of food, you are also protecting yourself from having an attack which may range from slight to a more serious one. Although the foods that you eat may not exactly be the direct cause of an attack, still by the mere possibility that it might cause an attack should be enough to deter you from eating these foods.
