Could Dark Chocolate Help Eliminate Asthma?

In some cases of asthma, chocolate could actually be a trigger that causes an attack, but what if there was a chocolate out there that could help you battle your asthma and could even help you eliminate it all together? We may have the solution to help you finally overcome asthma. It could be something that you enjoy doing, instead of barraging your body with harmful medications and inhalers that don't seem to be able to reach the root of the problem that is causing your asthma in the first place.

Asthma is something that we believe is caused by our environment and the sickening amount of environmental pollutants that fill our water, food and the air we breathe. Our environment is becoming unbearable, especially for those who are the innocent ones that are contracting horrible diseases. They are exposed to these pollutants in so many different forms. Take for instance diesel fuel emissions, these emissions have been proven to have cancer-causing agents in them. These pollutants have raised another problem, that problem is how deep these pollutants are inhaled into your lungs when you breathe them in.

When doctors where trying to figure out the best size of inhaler medications that would reach the deepest part of your lungs, they found that a size of 2.5 microns were the perfect size to reach the deepest part of your lungs. Now the scary part about that is, the size of diesel fuel emissions is exactly 2.5 microns. These pollutants are going to the deepest part of your lungs, which means the reason you have asthma in the first place could be that these carcinogens have embedded themselves in your lungs. They are causing you many types of respiratory issues that may be directly linked to why you have asthma.

Now this chocolate I want to share with you is a rich dark chocolate that is very high in antioxidants but also has the ability to remove these harmful environmental pollutants that have invaded your body. Toxins are inside you right now, causing unbalance, disease and leaving you faced with little to no options in your fight against them. But what if chocolate could help your body eliminate your asthma? Your body is the cure for disease; there are no doctors, no drugs and no natural remedies that can cure asthma. Only your body has that ability and if you can provide your body with the right tools, it can overcome anything.

I believe you have stumbled on a very possible tool to help you beat the disease you battle with on a daily basis. Eliminating environmental pollution from your body is the best thing you could ever do for yourself because your body has what we call a toxic burden. Once they are eliminated from your body, then and only then can your body begin to heal itself. Anything is possible, even a special chocolate can put you on the road to overcoming asthma. The fun thing about this is that it tastes amazing! Give yourself the gift of healing and a future free from disease. Healing could be only clicks away, what are you waiting for?

How To Recognise Asthma Cough Symptoms

A persistent, chronic cough should not be ignored, particularly in children and could be a common symptom of asthma. Asthma cough is different than a conventional cough and it's important to differentiate between the two.

One of the most difficult things for parents is determining what is asthma cough and what is conventional coughing. There is a distinct difference. In fact, don't guess. The best course of action is to make an appointment to see your doctor. The truth is doctors even have difficulty in establishing the difference between the two.

Identifying Asthma Cough

Let's look at what asthma cough is. Essentially, asthma cough is non productive. By non productive, mucus isn't brought up. In fact, it's unique and has a sound all to it's own. It's very much a dry, wheezing sound and can persist until a child or adult gets to the stage where they are gasping for air. So no mucus and the chances are it's an asthma cough: if their is mucus, then it may be the signs of an impending cold.

The Cause Of Asthma Cough?

The most likely cause are allergens or irritants. The home is a common trigger factor and harbors a number of these symptom producing culprits. When a person reacts to these allergens or irritants the result will be a swelling in the airways causing muscle spasms in and around the bronchial passages. Because it's an irritant and not mucus productive, the obvious reaction is to cough and the reason why it's dry. Trying to force the irritating factor through the bronchial passages means the coughing will usually be prolonged and eventually lead to shortness of breath and dry reaching.

Asthma Cough Treatment

One of the best responsive treatments is the use of bronchodilators. They are effective in loosening the muscles around the bronchial tubes, soothing the cough and providing much needed respite to the sufferer. Lack of air movement when the muscles become tight around the bronchial tubes is akin to a "bear hug" being applied the use of broncodilators eases this restrictive effect, forcing the air back through the passages.

Effective treatment also includes the use of inhaled corticosteroids. This anti-inflammatory treatment has the effect of easing the swelling, usually chronic, around the bronchial area thus making their job of forcing out any irritants a lot easier.

Other Treatment Methods

Herbal specialists have been sought in recent times and recommendations such as tea, black or green, are said to provide some relief against asthma cough symptoms. Honey can also provide relief particularly before going to bed at night. How effective these treatments are compared to more traditional medical treatments shouldn't really be an issue as they are intended more to compliment those treatments.

Eliminating most of the allergens and irritants from the home may not be possible, in fact, it's nigh on impossible however, with good management practice techniques, asthma cough incidence can be kept to a minimum.

My Bout With Allergies

This is my personal account with my battles with my ever present allergies and how I have been treating this pesky ailment. Im not a doctor, so please understand this article is for educational purposes and should be read at your own risk.

Background

I have been dealing with seasonal allergies for a little over ten years starting at the age of about twenty one. My allergies seemed to get a lot worse when we introduced a family cat. By this time, my allergies were consistent with an almost on queue daily morning sneezing fit.

Many drugs were purchased and used to help with the onslaught of sneezing, congestion and the headaches. None of them worked effectively for me. I have the desk drawer full of medication to prove it. Also attempted were more natural approaches like breathing in steam and a nasal sinus rinse which was administered through the nose. (This nasal sinus rinse surprisingly worked for my congestion but I soon got tired of the rather cumbersome process). If you are interested in trying this method, there are plenty of resources on the web to get you started.

Unfortunately, I started smoking cigarettes around the age of nineteen and got up to about a pack a day around the age of twenty two, this continued on for another nine years. (I had my battles with quitting during this time). I suffered periods of shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing. I went to see a doctor and he prescribed an inhaler for me. I was very thankful to him for helping me ease my sudden loss of breath and severe attacks, which of course stemmed from all the smoking.

I did quit smoking with the help of an inspiring book called. "The easy way to stop smoking" by Allan Carr. I am not endorsing this book, but it did help me in my efforts to quit smoking. Though I quit smoking I noticed my asthma got much much worse after about a month of quitting. Doctors visits ended with the same outcome. Here's a prescription for a purple disk and an emergency inhaler. After 3 months, 3 doctors visits and subsequent prescriptions, I decided to look for potential reasons for my Asthma continuing to worsen. This is when I stumbled upon a comment about hydrogen peroxide and this is when this story really begins.

Medical History

An important factor in my story and any story you read regarding treatment of any ailments are the history of the person. After all, doctors do have your file on record for a reason.

I would say my medical history is somewhat non-existent. I do not go to the doctor very often; planned visits all revolve around my need for Asthma medication. After a certain point I stopped talking to my doctors about my Allergies a very long time ago because I was told to see a Specialist. After much time spent and a bit of frustration, I gave up on attempting to see an Allergist/immunologist. After a 6 month waiting list, I could still not actually schedule a concrete appointment. This is not the doctors or Allergists fault, its just the system and amount of patients needing attention. Allergy medication was prescribed by my doctor several times, but nothing worked effectively. My Asthma problems was much better handled then my Allergies as far as finding something that works. As mentioned above, I was using the purple disk along side an emergency inhaler. My doctor said my checkup is good but strongly suggested and pleaded with me to stop smoking. I took up his advice but a month into quitting and my Asthma dramatically got worse. My doctor said little hairs in my lungs, called Cillia, where lying somewhat dormant due to the smoking and are now starting to open up with the increase of oxygen since quitting smoking. These little hairs are pushing up all the bad stuff that has been accumulating in my lungs over the years but in the process making my Asthma pains much worse. I continue to deal with this aspect but am hopeful that i will get over this effect soon.

Other then the past smoking history, I would say I am somewhat healthy, I don't eat out every day but I certainly don't maintain a strict diet either. I play a little basketball, but lately, as in the last 8 months, I haven't played at all. Prior to the 7-8 month absence I would say I played once a week. I drive my car to work but plan on riding my bicycle to work when the weather warms up. I know I need the exercise but riding in the cold and rain is very discouraging. I also plan on picking up basketball again when the weather heats up.

The Story

At the beginning of my research I read many personal stories about individuals and their experiences with Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy that didn't seem genuine. I was reading claims of alleviating not only chronic problems such as Allergies and Asthma, but also serious terminal ailments like Melanoma and Prostate Cancer.

This left me with a very skeptical view. The claims seemed far-fetched and I could find no evidence of scientific research or clinical trials.

On the other hand, I had used many prescription medications and "over the counter" drugs, that are backed by extensive medical research and funded by millions if not billions of dollars. Based on my experiences, I found the following...

A. Most remedies I tried simply did not work and are still collecting dust in my medicine cabinet, in a drawer or in my fridge.

B. Some products alleviated my symptoms, but had other drawbacks. They were expensive and had potential side effects. These side effects can be numerous and significant, as is plainly obvious from the advertisements alone.

With this in mind, I was willing to try alternative therapies. Therefore I kept looking for more information, and for some reason I stayed curious about the varying uses of Hydrogen Peroxide. My research continued on. Though high concentrations of Hydrogen Peroxide are undoubtedly toxic, the same is true for many things we ingest. Everything in moderation as the old saying goes. After reading about the role that Hydrogen Peroxide already plays in the body, I reasoned that using this treatment in the prescribed method, was likely not harmful and if it worked at all, it was likely to work for my symptoms.

With a little fear of the unknown, I decided to give it a shot.

The Results

So far I have experienced some very positive progress with my Allergies & Asthma, which after suffering for so many years, is both exciting and encouraging. Regarding my daily congestion, I am once again able to breathe completely through my nose and right down into my lungs. I have not been able to do such a thing in many many years. I still do sneeze, but again, I still have the cat around so without removing the "problem" I cant expect the H2O2 therapy to cure this.

My Asthma has gotten much better, though I do not completely rely on the H2O2 exclusively, I do use an inhaler for any emergencies I have with my breathing when an Asthma attack is on its way. To put this in perspective, prior to the H2O2 therapy, for three months I was on that purple disk prescribed by my doctor along with an inhaler used for any emergency Asthma attacks. The purple disk worked great for me, kept my Asthma in check but I really have no idea what it was or will do to my body now or in the future. The list goes on and on for potential side effects and I encourage any one reading this to seriously question what they are putting into their bodies and read the labels and the fine print. The monthly bill was also hampering my budget. Back to my results, once I stopped the purple disk and started the H2O2 i have not felt the need to "control" my Asthma with any prescriptions. Like I mentioned, I still do get attacks and have my inhaler with me at all times for those emergencies, along with my nasal mister. More info on the mister below.

The Method

The H2O2 method I researched and decided to use was the inhalation method. After about a week of researching other comments, YouTube videos and any and all resources, the inhalation method was the method I felt would be best fit for me. Currently I am using a 4-4-4 method (easy for me to remember) which uses a 2.9% H2O2 solution (the solution consists of 29% food grade hydrogen peroxide diluted using 1 part 29% H2O2 and 10 parts distilled water placed into a nasal mister.

The 4-4-4 method entails 4 nasal mist sprays, every 4 hours, 4 times a day.

Side effects

The Side effects

All joking aside... None to speak of as yet.

The Time Period

13 months and counting. (Since about early February 2011)

Last Words

I have created a site as part of my ongoing research in to the varying uses of Hydrogen Peroxide. It should be noted that I am a layman and am only sharing my personal experiences and creating a conduit for others to share their knoweldge and stories through the site. It is my hope that by providing this space for others to do the same, we may begin to develop a clearer picture of what potential this treatment may hold, whether it be positive or negative. I am not dismissing the importance of clinical trials, doctors recommendations and the pharmaceutical community. If you choose to use this alternative therapy, do so at your own risk.

I can only speak for myself and I cannot praise enough how much it has helped me and I want others that experience issues with Allergies and Asthma to reconsider their options.

Read up and educate yourself about this very misunderstood yet powerful and effective little fluid.

Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed my story and hopefully you have the time to view the site.

5 Surprising Asthma Triggers For Your Child

Imagine the terror. You try to suck in breath, but nothing is getting into your lungs. Your bronchial tubes have closed off access to your lungs. If you do not do something within just moments, you will lose consciousness. You could wind up with heart disease or brain damage due to oxygen deprivation. You could die. You are alone. You can't call out for help because you have to have breath to have a voice. You fumble and finally bring your inhaler to your mouth. Two quick bursts of the medicine and you can immediately feel the bronchial tubes opening, letting breath and much-needed oxygen into your lungs. You are safe until the next time you encounter a trigger for your asthma.

Triggers are usually things that would not bother other people, but can take an asthmatic to the brink of death. A majority of asthma sufferers are children. Their parents live in fear that their child will not be able to get their inhaler in time. It's important for them to be aware of all of the possible triggers to which their child is susceptible. Asthma triggers in children are as individual as children themselves. It's a long arduous effort of hit and miss testing for doctors to learn what triggers will send each child into an asthma attack.

Some of the most common asthma triggers in children are:

  1. The common cold - Yes, catching a cold which is, generally speaking, a respiratory infection often triggers an asthma attack in children. It's bad enough for a child to be sick with a cold, coughing, sneezing, congestion, and then on top of that... asthma!

  2. Smoke - You don't usually have to warn asthmatics not to smoke. But sometimes their parents need to be reminded what breathing second-hand smoke does to an asthmatic.

  3. Medications, such as aspirin - That's right, even something as beneficial to many people's health as aspirin can send an asthmatic into a severe attack. This is, perhaps, the most surprising in a list of asthma triggers in children. Asthmatics must be careful with medications they take, especially over-the-counter drugs.

  4. Prolonged laughing or crying- Can you imagine what asthmatic children must have to do to reign in their emotions because of the fear of laughing or crying could make them unable to breathe? Without strong emotional reactions like these, life can be rather bland. Parents often overly-shelter their asthmatic children. They tend to live rather secluded and asocial childhoods, unable to do so many of the things other kids do.

  5. Cooking fumes- While many of us enjoy coming into a kitchen filled with the wonderful aroma of our favorite foods cooking, asthmatic children cannot usually take that chance. The smell of certain foods can trigger an asthma attack. Because they don't know what could trigger an attack, they just need to stay away from the kitchen. That would be very hard for some of us!

There could be an endless list of asthma triggers in children. These are just five examples of ones you might not have expected.

Acupuncture For Asthma: Why Studies Are Lacking And The Traditional TCM View

Can Acupuncture Help Asthma?

Having been diagnosed with asthma when I was too young to remember, only to have some serious, frightening attacks later when I was in my twenties, I can appreciate any asthma sufferer who wishes to find a non-chemical solution to this health problem.

From personal experience, and as has been proven in some studies*, acupuncture has the potential to help. That said, this is when it is carried out by the right practitioner, who is obviously going to be properly qualified, but ideally will also be tuned into their patients.

Issues With Studies

*The issue with studies is that they have been limited in a variety of ways. For example, one can question firstly whether the acupuncture used in studies is a realistic reflection of what is used in everyday clinical practice. In studies two different types of acupuncture can be used, hence complicating further the results.

So taking the Cochrane Library review on acupuncture and asthma, in this instance the results of two small studies using these two types of acupuncture were pooled but the conclusion was that there was insufficient data in order to facilitate the extrapolation of the effects of acupuncture to the general population level.

As clinical trials will be given a limited number of case studies, researchers will frequently attempt to find the most effective combination of acupuncture points for asthma. However both in valuable books and clinical practice, the reality is that the approach is far more specific. Points needled can be according to the excess type and deficiency type.

Also there are a good number of points at the front and back of the ribcage which are used traditionally for alleviating asthmatic breathing, yet only a few of these are mentioned occasionally in clinical trials and textbooks.

Acupuncture Approach And Asthma

So although it would be great for acupuncturists and advocates of acupuncture that there was a wealth of studies that could give evidence that acupuncture can help asthma, as yet this is not the case.

What do we have to help us make an informed decision? We really only have the fact that in the traditional way of acupuncture and TCM regards any disease, asthma included, as a manifestation of a deeper disharmony. Therefore when a patient attends a properly qualified acupuncturist who has the ability to diagnose and tune into whatever the root cause of the disharmony is, then there is a real ray of hope for help with asthma as well as many other conditions.

That said it is not responsible of practitioners to recommend asthma sufferers coming off their medication totally. Being stuck without an inhaler is no joke if you get a serious asthma attack! Instead a gradual, cautious reduction should be adopted and patients should be given the choice to do what they feel comfortable with, of course within the realms of safety.

Asthma And The Traditional TCM View

Traditionally in TCM the view is that asthma can occur because of disorders connected with the functioning of the lungs, stomach and kidney. Therefore many of the potential points to be needled can be found along the respective meridians, as well as the bladder meridian, as this is used in the treatment of all organs.

On the upper part of the back there are quite a few bladder meridian points which are used in the treatment of asthma and some of these are especially important as there can be a blockage of qi (energy flow) in the back that has an important influence on the severity of asthmatic breathing.

The organs in TCM are not regarded simply as western medicine regards them as purely anatomical. In TCM they carry a combination of physical, spiritual, emotional and energetic aspects.

According to TCM's Five Element Theory the different organ systems are interrelated and it is used in TCM to diagnose patterns of disharmony. The five elements are wood, fire, earth, metal and water.

The metal element corresponds with the lungs (as yin organ), the large intestine (yang organ), with the season of autumn and the colour white. This element controls respiration as well as skin issues and removal of waste from the body. Imbalance can manifest as asthma, shortness of breath, skin conditions, coughing, bowel problems and feelings of sadness or grief.

The Different Purposes of E-Numbers in Food and How They Can Be Potentially Harmful to You

A certain e-number has its own purpose. Although the purpose may always sound logical, its effect may not always be healthy. In this article, you will discover the various purposes of e-numbers and how potentially harmful they can be to you.

The Coloring Agents

Many e-numbers function as coloring agents. They are available in different shades such as yellow, blue, red, and black and they can truly make every food and drink more visually attractive. However, they are also known to trigger asthma, urticaria, and other allergic reactions. Among the most popular coloring agents are E 100- E 180 and E249-E 252.

The Flavor Enhancers

These e-numbers are used to increase the food's palatability. Among the most common additives in this group are the monosodium glutamate (MSG) and aspartame.

MSG is known for triggering headache, tightness in the face, neck, and chest. It is often found in instant drinks and soup packets. The labels may read any number between E 620 and E 635. If you love instant cold drinks or hot soups, it's time you give the habit a second thought.

Aspartame, on the other hand, is a sweetener replacement said to have a lower calorie content that sugar. However, it has been found to trigger urticaria, hives, and body swelling. It is now just right to think that not all low-fat or low-sugar is good.

The Preservatives

First in line are the sulphites. The gas forms of these chemicals can cause irritation of the lungs and may set off asthma attack. In liquid form, they are usually found in fruit juice concentrates, cold drinks, and wine. They are also utilized to preserve processed meats, dried fruits, and even salads. In their solid forms, sulphites may cause urticaria. They are E-numbers 220- 227.

Second in line are benzoic and parabens. These are enumbers in food to prevent spoilage. They may also be added to drinks especially sugar-free ones. Bearing the E numbers 210- 219, these additives are known to trigger asthma, develop urticaria, and angioedema.

The third kind of preservatives is the antioxidants. E 320 and E 321 inhibit the food from spoiling but may cause urticaria, rhinitis, and may trigger asthma attack.

Although there are no accurate diagnostic tests yet on how e-numbers exactly cause different conditions, it is very important that consumers practice more caution in shopping for their family's foods. It would not hurt to always check the label and learn about the contents of each item they are bringing to the table. Be wary of different advertisements. It would help if you become suspicious of any new product being advertised in the media. Not everything that sounds good is good.

E-numbers do not only cause common food allergies but other conditions too. If you want to play safe and keep yourself and the whole family from harm, take time to know each of them and make sure you exclude those that is potentially dangerous to your well being. This is especially true if you have young children in the family.

How Does An EpiPen Work?

Epinephrine, or what is more popularly known as adrenaline, is a hormone that mainly affects the sympathetic nervous system. When there is an increase in adrenaline within your body, your heart beats faster, your blood vessels constrict and the air passages dilate. In the medical field, epinephrine is used to treat varied conditions like bleeding, cardiac arrest and allergic reactions. One of the most popular ways of injecting adrenaline to patients is through the use of an EpiPen.

An EpiPen is a needle-loaded device that is very much like a syringe. It contains a specified dosage of epinephrine and is administered either by a physician or by the patients themselves. Often, EpiPens are used to treat asthma, allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.

Do you have any allergies? If so, how does your body usually react when you get in contact with or consume any substance that you are allergic of?

Sneezing, coughing and itchiness are often manifestations of an allergic reaction. In some cases, you can also feel like you are having an asthma attack hence you find difficulty with breathing. But for some people, allergies can be as fatal as any injury. They may experience as deadly complications as low blood pressure and extreme swelling. This is called an anaphylactic shock. In such cases, the use of an EpiPen is most needed.

As a patient, you have to unscrew the EpiPen and strike it into your thigh at a ninety-degree angle. It is highly suggested that the EpiPen is struck into the thigh because the medicine travels faster from it throughout your body. Hold the EpiPen for about 10 seconds or at least until you have emptied its content into your thigh. You need to react very fast lest you want to be encumbered by your symptoms and eventually get your senses cut off.

In using an EpiPen, you have to be sure that your attack is already at its most difficult to cope with. You also have to make sure that even after your severe allergic reactions are already stopped you would still go and consult a doctor to continue the treatment either through oral medication or through the avoidance of allergens.

You need to always have EpiPens in your medicine cabinet but that does not mean you can use the drug anytime you want. Remember that epinephrine can be just as detrimental to your body when used indiscriminately.

How Is Asthma Caused in Adults

Asthma is a very common condition that affects millions of adults worldwide. There are thousands of possible causes that can initiate an asthma attack and knowing which one can affect you or your loved ones can greatly decrease the possibility or frequency of asthma attacks. Asthma causes in adults are exactly the same as their causes in children.

While asthma is very common, the causes are varied like things as common as house dust to extremely specific such as certain food items. Asthma is defined as the predisposition to the inflammation of the linings of the lungs. This leads to difficulty in breathing. The condition can also be deadly in some circumstances which is extremely scary. Determining the common asthma causes in adults in your areas can be the difference between a healthy life and an extremely hard one.

Asthma causes in adults come in different forms. For example quick temperature changes can trigger an asthma attack. Coming out from an air conditioned environment into a hot or cold area can suddenly cause an asthma attack in some persons. This is because the body and the lining of the lungs are suddenly surprised by the temperature change and constrict in reaction to it.

Air pollution is also another important the possible asthma causes in adults. Constant exposure to polluted air indoors or outdoors can have tremendous effects on the lungs and may lead to asthma attacks. For example, the cigarette smoked filled rooms in bars and other commercial establishments can affect the staff and give them asthma. Highway workers and people who work in the vicinity of roadways can be exposed to vehicle based pollution can become asthmatics with enough exposure.

Asthma is also a form of allergic reaction to some people. Exposure to specific allergens can suddenly induce an asthma attack. As one of the most likely asthma causes in adults, this case is the most important to monitor. Allergens can come in a lot of forms and shapes. Some are common like house dust or cheese and milk, however some are extremely rare such as specific insect bites, animal hairs, exotic fruits, and even seafood types.

By knowing the common asthma causes in adults one can make sure to stay clear of them. An important part of this is consulting with a doctor or other medical health professional to make sure what kind of factors can initiate an asthma attack in each particular case. Consulting with an allergologist can help one determine most if not all of the possible allergens that can cause allergic attacks and other adverse effects. If you are diagnosed with asthma always make sure to have your asthma medication at hand for any sudden attacks that may occur due to exposure to common asthma causes in adults.

The Symptoms of Asthma

Asthma is a malady that for the severely afflicted can be lethal if not properly addressed. It is especially difficult for the parent of a child with asthma. Asthma symptoms can rob a child of many things that are part of being a child. Having to constantly be on guard for an asthma attack is a never ending problem for the parent of child with asthma. The problem is no less worse for an adult with asthma. An asthma attack can be fatal in the severely afflicted. Every asthma attack is cause for alarm and has to be immediately addressed and treated.

Asthma attacks have early warning signs. It is important to recognize these signs so that you can begin treatment of an attack as early as possible. The sooner you begin treatment the better the results you can expect from the treatment given. Some typical warning signs of an oncoming asthma attack are coughing with a runny nose and headache.Other signs that can appear are moodiness and sneezing and also breathing changes can be the sign of an oncoming attack. Other signs are dark circles under the eyes, fatigue and throat and chin itches. Trouble sleeping, difficulty at physical tasks like exercise and a downward trend in peak flow number.

Asthma symptoms can be mild or severe for the asthma sufferer. Airflow is obstructed during an asthma attack caused by changes in the air way that channels the air to the lungs. This causes difficulty in breathing can get progressively worse and in extreme cases can result in death. Wheezing is a sign if an oncoming attack, so is coughing and tightness in the chest. Close attention has to be paid to children due to the fact that a child can sometimes have a tendency to ignore the initial symptoms during play and can delay treatment by doing so.

Severe asthma symptoms are a serious issue as a severe asthma attack can be fatal. It is absolutely imperative that the severe asthma sufferer have a plan in place for addressing these attacks. This plan should be designed by a medical professional and be ready to be implemented at a moments notice. The signs of a severe asthma attack are as follows. Severe coughing and wheezing with shortness of breath and tightness in the chest. A grey or blue tint to the skin brought on by lack of oxygen in the blood stream. Fast and shallow breathing can be sign of an oncoming severe attack. A severe decrease in the peak flow numbers.

Any of these symptoms should never be ignored. Even mild symptoms if ignored can develop into more severe symptoms. It is important that emergency medical care be prompt in the severe asthma sufferer if these symptoms appear. Paying close attention to your symptoms and their frequency and severity should be part of the asthmatics treatment plan. Doing so will help your physician more accurately direct his or her plan of action in your treatment. Merely telling your doctor about the symptoms is not enough A written log or record of the symptoms is what is required to properly develop and make adjustments in an ongoing treatment plan.

This log should be as detailed as possible. It should include the following. The asthma symptoms and their severity when they occur. The number of night time awakenings or sleep disruptions. This would include when they occur and how often they are spaced apart. Any changes of the use of quick relief medicines. This would include any increase or decrease in their effectiveness and their frequency of use. The number of school days or work days missed and hospital visits. Peak flow numbers should be recorded so that any patterns can be recognized and established. In the end it is you who are responsible for you or your childs treatment plan.

Asthma Affects Millions of People

Each year asthma gets more and more common among people, asthma rates in children is sky rocketing, 17 million Americans have asthma, and nearly 5 million of those, are children. A Harvard university study states that every year, thousands of people in the U.S. die prematurely from heart and lung disease from causes traced to particulate air pollution.

There are many factors to this, one, is your family history, did someone in your family tree suffer from asthma? Some can be triggered by dust allergens, pollens, pet dander, exercise and even environmental pollution. Desensitization through the use of allergy shots may lessen or even prevent attacks. Air barriers and filters can also help reduce or avoid an asthma attack all together.

Attacks can be avoided quite often by knowing the signs and symptoms. As we grow older, asthma attacks seem to lesson, but tend to return later on when you grow old. But in some cases, people in their older years can become burdened with asthma, and even start having severe attacks. Asthma conditions in older people as opposed to younger people can be quite different. In older adults, respiratory diseases such as a cold, flu and airborne allergens like dusts, smoke and pollen are the most common triggers in asthma sufferers.

Older people are likely to have other health related issues like diabetes, heart problems and even high blood pressure. Regular medications may be missed or not taken, which can lead to sudden flare ups, they may forget to take the right doses, or may not be able to diagnose they symptoms of an asthma attack soon enough. Warning signs can be difficult for older people to recognize. Old patients need to be treated with less aggressive remedies than the ones that are actually needed.

How many millions of people suffer from asthma? It is estimated that three hundred million people worldwide suffer from some type of Asthma, it has also been estimated that by the year 2025 there will be at least one hundred million more people that suffer from asthma, so the true answer to this question would be, way to many. There are signs and symptoms you should look out for, breathing problems, tightness in the chest when you exercise, wheezing, and shortness of breath.

It would be in your best interest for you to be checked, otherwise, you could well end up being one of those people who live among us day by day and are not aware that they suffer from such a dangerous debilitating illness. Be aware of your body, we only have one, so do your best to carefully watch, and diagnose all types of health conditions, could help you live a long life free of illness and disease.

How to Cure Exercise Induced Asthma

Exercise induced asthma is one of the most troubling ailments a person can get. Especially since exercise is still the best cure for most asthma conditions, having one that is triggered by one of the cures can be quite a big hassle. This is why learning how to cure exercise induced asthma is a necessity for people who suffer from this ailment.

Luckily, for most individuals with this condition, taking medications daily isn't too necessary, unless they engage in physical activities on a daily basis. Otherwise, taking something to prevent the attack would be especially needed.

Of course, preventing this kind of asthma is the most appropriate thing to do, especially since you already know what would likely happen if you started exercising without taking any precautions. Preventing the actual asthma attack is the wisest thing you should do if you already know that your condition is triggered by one.

But how would you do that? Here are some suggestions how to cure exercise induced asthma.

1. Use a bronchodilator inhaler before exercising. Inhalers like these are the most widely used medication to prevent full-blown asthma attacks. You can choose from a short or a long acting one, depending on your case.

2. Quit smoking. Smoking weakens the respiratory system, which is altogether bad for your asthma condition. Plus, this, with further exertion can really take toll on your lungs, so make sure to quit if you want to continue exercising and living without the hassles of constant asthma attacks.

3. Try breathing exercises. Proper breathing exercises not only helps you breathe easier, but it also trains your chest muscles to work better, especially after being strained too much from years of erratic breathing caused by asthma. There are also a good number of different techniques you can learn, so you can have different options in which one works for you best.

4. Avoid exercising in harsh conditions like extremely cold weather, high allergy season, or when you're suffering from a respiratory infection. This will only make you more prone to severe asthma attacks, so try to avoid exertion during times like these.

These are just some of the things you can do how to cure exercise induced asthma. Remember, although, your condition poses harm with physical exertion; it still should not stop you from exercising altogether. Exercise is still a very good way for you to regain much better health, just make sure to take some proper precautions.

Asthma Attack - Learn About What Happens When It Occurs

When asthma strikes, it is usually due to a constriction in the air passageways, which disallows a person to breathe normally and even produce a wheezing sound in severe cases. The main factors that cause the airways to become narrowed and blocked during an asthma attack include a constriction of the muscles surrounding the air tubes, an inflammation and swelling of the lining of the air tubes, and an increase in mucus production, which clogs the air tubes.

Twitchy Airways

The air tube is made up of several layers. On the outside of the air tube there is muscle which, by tightening and relaxing, controls the size of the opening of the air tube (the space through which air must pass). The muscle works by reflex, and is guided by the same portions of the nervous system that control reflexes, like involuntary blinking.

We have little conscious control over the tightening and relaxing of these muscles. Everyone's airways have the potential for constricting in response to irritant, such as cigarette smoke, perfume, or newsprint. In the asthma patient the airways are overreactive and have been described as 'twitchy'.

The overreactive asthma airway responds not just to allergens (like cat dander and ragweed) but also to other factors, like viral infections, barometric pressure changes, exercise, and cold air. During an asthma attack, the muscles surrounding the airways tighten, causing airway narrowing.

Asthma is not a problem limited to muscular constriction of the airways. An equally important problem is the inflammation of the lining of the airways. Inflammation can be understood by describing what happens when you scrape your knee. The scraped area becomes swollen and oozes with a fluid that contains many kinds of cells, some of which help to fight infection.

However, this fluid also contributes to the swelling. In asthma, the innermost lining of the airways is filled with cells and fluid that, as with the scraped knee, are a product of the inflammatory response. These cells and the associated swelling contribute to the obstruction of the airways in asthma attacks. Steroids, the medication most often utilized for difficult to manage flares of asthma, help to reduce inflammation in the airways.

Mucus Plugs

Mucus, which normally lubricates the airways to allow air to flow smoothly, increases in amount during asthma attacks and serves as a sticky plug to clog the airways, especially the smaller ones. All asthma patients are aware of the sensation of trying to cough up mucus. Often, they feel that if they could clear their airways by coughing up a sufficient amount of mucus, their asthma symptoms would subside.

But frequently there is so much mucus that even if one mucus plug is brought up, the same sensation and symptoms persists. It is important to seek your doctor's advice early on if you are unable to clear mucus plugging your airways, since neglected mucus plugging often prolongs asthma attacks.

In addition, when the plugs are allowed to linger they can become a source of infection. For this reason, an antibiotic is often prescribed for patients who are slow to respond to treatment during an asthma attack.

Asthma attacks at varying time intervals. The attacks can be as brief as several minutes or as lengthy as hours or days. Between attacks, there may be symptom-free intervals when it is impossible to tell an asthma patient from someone who does not have it.

A breathing test called spitometry, which is used to determine whether a person has asthma, may be normal in an asthma patient during an asthma-free attack. Nevertheless, spirometry is an important clue for determining whether a patient has asthma and should be part of the doctor's evaluation.

Does Asthma Exclude Sex Life?

Asthma may significantly impact your sex life, but there is no need to give it up at all. With appropriate adjustments you can still enjoy it to the fullest and even enrich it as the result of these adjustments.

If you dig deeper it turns out that many famous sports people suffer from asthma. Shocking as it may be, you should see it as good news to you in context of your sexual life if you suffer from asthma, too. What do these two have in common?

In many cases sports activity means prolonged effort requiring deep breathing for longer periods. The same concerns sex. So if it is possible to control asthma so well in case of sports people, it is also possible to control it in asthma.

The everyday bread of sports people is training and preparation for various events. In case of sports people with asthma it means also special breathing exercises. Why, then, shouldn't you consult your doctor, and ask for breathing exercises appropriate for you? Definitely, such exercises exist.

Joyful sex despite asthma may also require further adjustments of your erotic life. For example you should avoid positions in which too much pressure is exerted upon your chest which makes breathing harder. Therefore, you'll have to find and use other, more "breathing friendly" positions. There are many books around, including the ever-green Kamasutra, which can aid your imagination in this respect.

Doctors also say that people suffering from asthma don't need to avoid sports as long as doing it requires rather shorter bursts of activity than prolonged effort. That's again a piece of golden advice. If you are afraid of long sexual activity, because it can trigger asthma, you can try to change your sexual routines. Being mostly less active than your partner and taking initiative to the fullest when you feel comfortable can spice up your sexual life greatly.

If you are still afraid of having asthma attack during a sexual act, remember that there are more ways of reaching sexual satisfaction than the intercourse itself. Again, reach for any of numerous books on happy sex. Talk with your partner, and engage them into finding new ways of enriching your sexual life, too. It may be just another experience refreshing and spicing up your intimate relationship.

Asthma may significantly impact your sex life, but there is no need to give it up at all. With appropriate adjustments you can still enjoy it to the fullest and even enrich it as the result of these adjustments.

How to Get Rid of Phlegm Buildup in the Chest

Congestion of the lungs occurs when the body is incapable of clearing the build up of mucus and fluids, this gives rise to breathing difficulties, wheeziness and coughing. A lot of people think that exposure to the cold is the only cause of chest congestion but there are several other things that can cause the condition.

There are some people who suffer a strong allergic reaction to certain elements including molds, animal furs, pollen, dust and the like and display similar symptoms. Then, of course there is the condition caused by the common cold with accompanying runny nose and sore throat, this invariably leads to an infection of the chest. Similarly a viral infection such as flu can take hold and can become a serious issue. Unfortunately viruses can mutate and produce different flu like illnesses.

Resulting from colds and flu, bronchitis can set in. Bronchitis is an inflammation of the airways leading to the lungs, this condition can set up coughing fits as the body attempts to expel excessive mucus from the area of the lungs. This upper respiratory condition can remain for lengthy periods of time; up to three years in some cases. Smoking is a common cause for this condition which can be serious.

The services of a doctor is essential to differentiate one from the other and help to make a correct diagnoses.

Various other causes are:-

A serious condition called Asthma which is caused by the constriction of the airways thereby depriving the lungs of oxygen. There is no known cure for asthma but the condition can be controlled. An asthma attack can be triggered by many airborne irritants such as smoke, dust mites, mold, animal furs and various types of air pollutants.

Another serious lung condition is that of pneumonia, an infectious disease that is a leading cause of death amongst all age groups. Symptoms include shortness of breath, chest pains and the production of phlegm and mucus. The onset of this respiratory disease requires immediate medical treatment.

Whilst all the above conditions are unpleasant there are treatments available that can offer relief and in most cases a cure. Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics whilst in the case of asthma, sprays and various other medications alleviate the symptoms should they occur.

In order to breakup the mucus that causes congestion, it is recommended that one should consume plenty of fluids, including hot drinks. The employment of common sense measures can also bring much relief. By assuming a propped up position, whilst resting, will assist in coughing up mucus and clearing the lungs. The avoidance of dust and other air pollutants will help prevent coughing fits and breathing difficulties.By adopting these simple measures the sufferer will hopefully speed up a recovery and keep the doctors away.

Whilst it is not always possible to avoid taking antibiotics and the like, commonsensical self help will minimise there usage in many cases. Essentially it is vital to seek medical advice if congestion and breathing difficulties persist and home remedies have proven unsuccessful.

Whilst the commonest underlying causes for chest congestion has been described in a brief and simple manner above, there are many facets of the various causes that require the expertise of specialists.

ASTHMA ATTACK

Common signs of an asthma attack

  • Coughing - is a first signal that you can hear from afar.

  • Wheezing - sometimes the wheezing is quit and some times its loud

  • Being unusually quiet - happen most times with children

  • Shortness of breath - like wheezing, do not get anxious if you hear it

  • Feeling tight in the chest - because of a huge efforts to breath

  • Difficulty speaking in full sentences - again, because of huge efforts to breath

  • Tummy ache (in most of the cases it happen in younger children)

What to do

  • Keep calm - The last thing person under Asthma attack needs is pressure

  • Encourage the person to sit up and slightly forward - do not hug or lie them down

  • Make sure the person takes two puffs of his reliever inhaler immediately

  • Loosen tight clothing - it will give him extra place for breath

  • Reassure the person - talk calm, put a relax expression on your face

If there is no immediate improvement

Continue to make sure the person takes one puff of reliever inhaler every minute for five minutes or until their symptoms improve (written from personal experience and not from doctor or specialist)

Call emergency or a doctor urgently if:

  • The person's symptoms do not improve in 5-10 minutes

  • The person is too breathless or exhausted to talk

Minor attacks should not interrupt the involvement of a person with asthma in his life. When the person feels better he can return to his activities.

Important things to remember in an asthma attack

Asthma Treatment - Never leave a person having an asthma attack

If the person does not have his inhaler and/or spacer with him, send someone else to get his spare inhaler and/or spacer

Reliever medicine is very safe. During an asthma attack do not worry about a person overdosing (written from personal experience and not from doctor or specialist)

Contact the person's acquaintance (use his cellular list for example) immediately after calling the ambulance/doctor

The person's acquaintance should always accompany his friend taken to hospital by ambulance and stay with him until someone else from his family arrives

Generally you should not take the asthma attack's person to hospital in his own car. However in some situations it may be the best course of action. Another one should always accompany anyone driving the person having an asthma attack to emergency services

Do not forget that Guidance from devolved health care authorities on emergency transport in private vehicles is different in each country. You should have a clear emergency procedure policy on if and when this is appropriate

Food You Should Avoid in an Anti Asthma Diet

When you are suffering from asthma, you need to make huge changes to your diet. When changing your diet, there are some foods you need to include while there are some food you need to exclude. A healthy asthma diet often involve choosing healthier choices like fruit and vegetables over unhealthier processed.

The main aim of any asthma diet is to lose weight since there is such a strong correlation between weight and frequency of asthma attack. Here are some foods you should exclude to make it more asthma friendly.

Avoid white food. What I mean by white food is food like white bread, white rice and refined sugar. The problem with these types of food is that they are very starchy and lead to weight gain easily. White food consists mainly of simple carbohydrate which means the body will burn these foods pretty quickly causing to get hungrier faster and eat more instead.

Instead of eating white food, choose whole meal food like brown rice and whole meal bread. Professional runners and ironman personally prefer carbo-loading with complex carbohydrates it makes them last longer.

About 70 percent of asthmatics suffer from GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease. When someone has GERD, stomach acid has a tendency to flow back into the esophagus, creating a burning feeling sensation. These acids can often irritate the lungs, causing the asthma to become worse.

These are food that aggravate the acid reflux effect

Stay away from fatty or acid food. Reason being is that the body find it hard to digest them. You can always opt for them to be baked or boiled instead.

If you are an herbal remedy fanatic, you might want to stay away from peppermint for a while.

Stay from chili or any other spicy food like curry as these foods already irritate your lower esophagus.

Avoid gassy drinks like Coke. These gassy drinks caused you to burp a lot.

Now it's some time to clean out the unwanted food in your refrigerator. Here how you can clean your refrigerator.

First, take out any food that is in your refrigerator for more than six months. Chances are that foods that are around for this long may have bacteria that can trigger asthma.

Take out all snacks and sugary treats. Great examples will include cookies, chips and candies.
Take out any leftover canned food or any frozen vegetables in sauce.

Lastly, take out some all your soda can drinks or any other sweetened drinks.

Of course, you cannot hope to combat asthma through dieting alone. Other crucial factors will include asthma proofing your home, leading an active lifestyle and learning breathing exercises to strengthen your diaphragm.

Asthmatic Personality

There is some evidence that certain characteristics may single you out being at risk and make you more likely to develop asthma than other people. Various studies have suggested that asthmatics are irritable, angry, obsession and prone to depression. They bottle things up and hide their feelings when they are tense. Some doctors say tension is reflected in the lings and air passages, and there have been cases where releasing repressed emotions and fears have alleviated asthma.

Other doctors have suggested that asthmatics are too dependent on their mothers. It is difficult to know what comes first, the asthma or the personality traits. Having a condition that makes you wheezy and breathless is depressing, and if you have to clean the house from top to bottom to banish house dust mites or patches of mould then it is all too easy to become obsessive.

Nevertheless, a number of studies show that anxious and depressed sufferers are more likely to be wheezy, wake breathless or with a tight chest and have attacks of breathlessness when resting or after activity. Some children can deliberately bring on an attack by hyperventilating or coughing unnecessarily, in order to win sympathy, manipulate their parents or avoid school.

There is little doubt that a few people find that their eczema or allergy can win sympathy and attention. This is known as secondary gain. And remember; do not keep your feelings to yourself. Just telling someone, whether it is a colleague, friend, partner or counselor, about the things that are making you anxious can bring enormous relief. One study has suggested that 6 out of 10 people who have experiences serious asthma attacks were in denial.

Natural Cures and Remedies for Asthma

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that causes difficult breathing. Symptoms of asthma are caused from the constriction and tightening of muscles around the airways.

More than 22 million adults and 6 million children suffer from asthma in the United States. Every day in the United States:

1,000 people with asthma are admitted to the hospital.
11 people will DIE from their asthma.

There are many different types of asthma and many different triggers causing asthma attacks. While the exact cause of asthma is unknown some of the following factors may act together to cause asthma in some people.

Inherited tendency to develop allergy's.

Family history of asthma.
Contracting respiratory infections in early childhood.
Exposure to airborne allergens and viral infections in early childhood as immune system develops.
Other allergens like pet dander.
Allergic rhinitis.
Exposure to cigarette smoke.
Obesity.
Airway hyper-reactivity or the exaggerated airway responsiveness to various stimuli.

Asthma is often treated using natural cures and remedies. There are many herbs and natural substances that can help prevent or curb an asthma attack. Four of these natural cures for asthma are:

  1. Evening primrose oil

  2. Black seed oil

Be Careful And You Will Prevent An Asthma Attack

Many persons who have asthma are not aware of the seriousness of an asthma attack, due to their misinformation or even their ignorance regarding their disease. The beginning of the asthma attack is indicated by a wheezing noise while you are breathing. When the wheezing stops, the next step of the asthma attack is the blockage of many of the bronchioles. This is a serious problem that should not be ignored.

The real facts are that not all asthmatic persons wheeze in their first stage of their asthma attacks. They can have an asthma attack and not even know it, and realizing it too late to do something about it. That is why we will present you other symptoms that can lead you into realizing that you are on a verge to have a severe asthma attack. It can start with a continuous cough; an accelerated breath and you might feel a pressure or a pain in your chest. The person experiencing an asthma attack will feel how the chest muscles are contracting and it is possible to inhibit the ability of speaking.

The panic is slowly taking over the asthmatic's mind and body, causing him anxiety feelings and his/her face and fingers will turn blue. When this happens it is the sign that shows that the quantity of oxygen from the blood has dramatically decreased and it will lose his consciousness and can even be in fatal danger. These symptoms could easily aggravate if the medication is not administrated in time, with a powerful dosage.

How can we prevent this from happening? Be informed about all the symptoms that are warning signs of an asthma attack and stay away from any releasing or allergenic factors. Do not underestimate the seriousness of those symptoms: they can cost you your life. Any frequent night coughs, short moments of losing your breath, excessive tiredness, are NOT NORMAL!

Even smaller signs must not be ignored: if you feel tired and moody all the time, if you cannot sleep and you are wheezing and coughing each time you do physical activities, you must go to your physician and check the status of your health, in order to find out if you are an asthmatic person.

If you will do this, you can use those early signs of asthma attacks for your benefit, because learning them means learning about dealing with the asthma attack and, consequently, saving your life.

Why Hypnosis For Asthma is Becoming Most Popular!

Having asthma must be one of the most frightening conditions, as very often there is little warning when an attack is imminent and dust, stress, air pollution and cigarette smoke are just a few of the known triggers for the condition, which can affect the young and old alike.

There are many activities which become a strain and daunting to take on, and many sporting activities can become impossible to undertake because of the possibility of an attack. There are also restrictions towards certain job situations and in all the condition can make one's life restricted and unbearable.

People who have asthma tend to live a suffocating and restrictive life especially if the attacks occur frequently. There are different causes of asthma symptoms or attacks. Some asthma symptoms are induced by exercise, dust, stress, cigarette smoke, pollen, pollution, and there are many other triggers. These are all external factors which aggravate the condition of the asthma patient. It doesn't really matter if you"re young or old because asthma can definitely debilitate you when you"re having frequent and severe attacks.

If you suffer from asthma you will know how difficult it is in remaining calm during an attack when you are struggling to breath and your airways are restricting the oxygen flow and carrying an inhaler at all times adds an extra burden.

You will need to be aware of what triggers your attacks to make it easier to avoid them, but this still limits your ability to enjoy a full and active life.

Modern hypnotherapy techniques have a proved to be of comfort to asthma sufferers by helping them to remain calm when an attack is triggered. using hypnosis asthma can become a condition that can be controlled.

By recognising when an attack is forthcoming, following an asthma trigger, the hypnotic suggestions will have implanted the thought of remaining calm and visualizing your air passage as being wide and relaxed. This combined with being able to remain calmer during the attack will make the whole experience less traumatic and eventually attacks can be reduced or even completely removed by using this method.

Hypnosis is used quite extensively to help remain calm generally and in the case of asthma this is very important and makes life much easier.

The great thing about hypnosis is the ease with which it helps bring about a change in behaviour and response patterns.Simply concentrating on the hypnosis script will take you into a relaxed state which allows the suggestions to be absorbed by your subconscious, either through a hypnotherapist or, using autohypnosis, where the recorded script takes you into a similar relaxed and receptive state. This proven relaxing influence makes hypnosis very successful in conditions such as asthma which are similar in nature to panic attacks.

Using hypnosis to cure asthma has become increasingly popular in recent times as more people accept hypnotherapy as an accepted treatment for stress-related conditions. Many studies have shown that the treatment of conditions such as asthma can be effectively controlled using hypnotherapy and self hypnosis asthma treatment and this can easily apply to you if you are a sufferer. If you are willing to try an alternative method which can remove the condition, you may find yourself throwing away the inhaler and gaining the long lost freedom you thought you would never have the joy to experience.

Asthma Hints And Tips

Asthma can be described as having "twitchy airways" this is because the bronchial airways suddenly contract; there is tightness in your chest and you become short of breath and you start to cough and wheeze.

If you're under 40 the likelihood of your asthma being triggered by an allergy is thought to be about 90%. Nowadays it is thought that pollen allergies, animal fluff, dust mites and mould are probably the most likely culprits for the increase in the incidence of people suffering from asthma like symptoms.

After the age of 40 the percentage falls to about 50% with the other 50% thought to be caused by other diseases such as COPD or Emphysema.

Asthma is a reversible disease and as long as it is controlled by the correct medication and a great deal of common sense then it doesn't have to be a life sentence, all you have to do is remember your triggers and avoid them as much as possible, this includes:

* Staying out of smoked filled rooms, even if you don't smoke yourself you still shouldn't be around people who do even if they are not smoking in front of you, cigarette smoke can cling to their clothes and if you are hypersensitive it could trigger an attack. Asthmatic children are especially vulnerable.

* If you suffer from asthma you'll probably find that fireplaces and wood burners exacerbate your asthma problem, if you don't have much choice about living with them then you should ensure the room is well ventilated and the chimney is airtight.

* There is a school of thought that going to sleep on a full stomach may possibly induce an asthma attack especially if you are prone to acid reflux. If this is the case try propping the pillows up to sleep and taking an antacid before retiring. This may sort the problem out. Alternatively don't make a habit of eating heavily just before you go to bed.

* Cold air is one of the worst triggers for inducing an asthma attack so if you do have to go outside when it is very cold then make sure you keep your mouth well wrapped with a scarf to prevent breathing in the cold air. The scarf turns the air you are breathing warm and moist.

* Air conditioning can also induce an attack if it's drawing the air in from outside your vehicle. This is because it's drawing in all the triggers you are possibly averse to such as pollen and fumes. If you do want to run your air conditioner, make sure it's set to re-circulate the air inside the car.

* Even the kitchen can have its hazards. If you're sensitive to certain foods then even smelling them cooking could trigger an asthmatic attack. It's a good excuse to get someone else to do the cooking!

* Go easy on the salt; there has been recent research which suggests that there is a definite correlation between the consumption of salt and asthma in both adults and children.

* There is a general consensus that some food additives can have a huge impact on asthma sufferers (especially children). If your child is an asthmatic you should start checking labels carefully on the foodstuff that you buy to ensure there are no additives. You may be surprised at the improvement in their asthma symptoms. Metabisulphite is the main culprit and should be avoided if possible.

* Don't use aspirin if you have a headache or any other aches and pains. Many asthma sufferers can be very sensitive to aspirin and its ingestion has led to death on a number of occasions.

* Finally use your inhalers correctly. Unfortunately there are a lot of asthmatics out there who don't use their inhalers as they should. There is a specific technique to using an inhaler and if you don't inhale correctly the medicine won't hit your airways and lungs as it should, ensure you're taught how to use it by someone who actually knows what they are doing.

Having asthma isn't a life sentence because it can be managed very well. Even severe sufferers of asthma can live normal productive lives as long as they manage their condition to the best of their ability, all it takes is a pinch of common sense and ensuring you know as much as you possibly can about your condition.

Because of the strong smell it emits, there were some users who complained of dizziness, nausea, headache, migraine and difficulty breathing. The smell however was reported to have subsided after a month or so. There weren't much complaint filed as monitored by FDA.

There are pillows out in the market that are made of natural latex and claim to be so 100%. They are processed naturally, washed off of proteins that might attract dust mites and free of chemicals. However, the glue used for layering could provoke allergies among sensitive users. It is safe to warn individuals allergic to latex to avoid using latex pillows.

But before jumping into this treatment, here's a brief overview about this disease and how this marine oil can help.

For asthmatics, the passageways which send air to and from the lungs can become swollen, irritated and inflamed. Inevitably, this causes the airways, also known as the bronchial tubes, to narrow and this is what causes asthmatics to struggle with their breathing.

Physical symptoms of asthma include:

  • Coughing

  • Wheezing

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Shortness of breath

  • Tightness in the chest

  • Overall breathing problems

Generally, asthmatics suffer more in the mornings and evenings.

Treatments for asthma generally include medications, inhalers, nebulizers, and bronchodilators.

On the holistic flip side, patients are adding shark liver oil supplements as an adjunct therapy while others are trying it as a total therapy.

Some natural healthcare professionals have discovered that this marine oil has a special active ingredient called alkylglycerols. It is a unique lipid. This ingredient, also known as AKG, reduces asthma symptoms.

But before buying a shark liver oil supplement, it's so important to do research in finding the right soft gel supplement which is eco-friendly, pure and potency guaranteed.

Locating a manufacturer backed by clinical studies is really important, as well. This includes detailed information about its patented purifying process.

Always keep in mind that all supplements are not the same. Remember, a quality product provides the best health benefits.

Shark liver oil helps reduce the reaction to allergic stimuli which can spur asthma attacks. These stimuli can include allergies to different things, such as:

  • Food

  • Animal dander

  • Chemicals

  • Dust

  • Pollen

  • Medication

A change in weather may also jumpstart an asthma attack.

Shark liver oil encourages macrophages, the white blood cells within tissues, and to get rid of bad stimuli and debris in the lungs and airways.

While working hard to ward off bad stimuli that can trigger allergic reactions, it also prevents inflammation by blocking protein kinase C.

In Dr. Peter T. Pugliese's book, Devour Disease With Shark Liver Oil, he highlights how asthma suffers can find relief with this marine oil. He first points out how asthma is an immune-type disorder which was studied and researched in Sweden.

"When test subjects with asthma took 250 mg of shark liver oil, three times a day investigators reported complete recoveries after six months of treatment," Pugliese wrote. He continued, "Since this is an immune disorder, it responded well to the immunity-boosting alkylglycerols."

Before starting any new supplement regimen, it's highly recommended to first speak with a healthcare professional while discussing the right dosage amount.

Shark liver oil, often called an amazing healer, is a great holistic way to help asthmatics breathe easier.

Cat Allergy Symptoms Induce Cat Asthma Attacks

Many illnesses in children and adults are actually caused by a cat allergy symptom. The source of the allergy symptom is of course our feline pet friends. Today, one out of two households has a cat for a pet. This exposes millions who suffer from cat allergy symptom(s) to allergens that produce symptoms ranging from sneezing to severe asthma.

Cat asthma refers to the sudden reaction some people have to coming in close contact with a cat. The victim suffers from spasms and swelling of the respiratory tract due to the immune system rejecting the protein contained in the pet dander. This protein is carried in the cat's saliva and deposited on the feline's fur (to become pet dander) during a cat's constant grooming ritual. In severe instances the airway can be shut off and the person unable to breath.

The top four symptoms that contribute and may indicate an asthma attack is around the corner are as follows:

1. Acute Rhinitis.

Rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal passages in the nose. Acute rhinitis means it occurs suddenly. Many people who suffer from cat (and often food) allergies have an instant reaction when a kitty is brought near their face. This usually evokes a fit of sneezing, and an itchy runny nose. Often the person may sneeze uncontrollably. Allergy relief for this symptom may consist of an over the counter oral antihistamine and/or nasal spray to alleviate cat allergy symptom(s).

2. Itchy, red, watery eyes.

Some sufferers' eyes will water so much it may look like they are crying. Eye drops for cat allergy relief are available over the counter and by a doctor's prescription.

3. Skin Rash or hives.

The skin may have an adverse reaction if the cat saliva comes into contact with the skin (such as the cat licking or rubbing up against you). A raised red area called hives may occur at the point of contact. The body's immune system then takes over and continues to make the rash worsen. Washing the area may help give cat allergy relief from this symptom.

4. Difficulty Breathing or shortness of breath (dyspnea)

If the dander from the cat is inhaled via the air, inflammation and swelling of the airways may occur. If the irritation continues to cause the immune system to attack the mucus lining, an asthma attack occurs.

Anyone with asthma should discuss a treatment plan that includes a rescue inhaler if cat asthma symptoms need to be controlled suddenly due to an attack. Most individuals who know they suffer from symptoms carry and inhaler to counteract the swelling of the respiratory tract. Prompt treatment is crucial. If an attack does not improve quickly with on hand treatments; call 911 and request professional medical assistance to avoid fatality.

Suffering from a cat allergy symptom may be difficult if many of your friends are cat lovers and owners. Some things you can do to maintain your friendship while avoiding symptoms from occurring is to ask your friend to put kitty in a secure (and away from you) place. Do let them know it is not because you are a cat hater, but rather you want to avoid becoming seriously ill. Your friends should understand this.

How Does Swimming Help Asthma?

You can help to get asthma conditions handled through many swimming activities. You can work to get lung capacity improved so that it will be easier for you to breathe throughout the day. You will need to be aware of some things when swimming though. These are with safety and your asthma treatment efficiency needs in mind.

What makes swimming useful is that it can help to get a healthy breathing pattern ready. You can end up being more likely to get oxygen to move into your lungs over time. This in turn can help you to feel less winded during different times of the day.

You can even get your asthma handled with improved endurance levels in your lungs. When you swim properly in the water you can get your airways to be able to feel comfortable with greater athletic processes. This is assuming that you start off slow and then go on later with your exercise. After all, getting your exercises to work too quickly could hurt you.

There are some things to watch for though. When you get a good pattern going for swimming you should be sure that you maintain that pattern. If you are inactive for a period of time you could end up becoming more likely to suffer from asthma attacks in the future.

You should also avoid pools that are treated with chlorine. This material can irritate one's airways. This is especially harmful for people with asthma in that an asthma attack can occur when chlorine gets into one's airways.

Also, when swimming it helps to start with a relaxed exercise regimen. Starting slowly can help to get your airways to become relaxed so that they will be able to work with more capacity for exercises. After you get to your peak you should slow down in terms of intensity. With this it will be easier to improve endurance levels in your lungs. This in turn will help you to keep from suffering from asthma attacks as often as you might have.

Swimming can help out with asthma in many ways. It helps to get your lungs to work with a healthy breathing pattern. It can also help to improve endurance levels in your airways. Be sure to watch for the pattern of swimming and your program though. This is so you can keep attacks from occurring at a greater rate in the future.

Are There Asthma Attack Home Remedies - Or Just Hot Air?

If you have asthma and you start looking for information on the Internet, you'll soon find several websites offering "100% sure" asthma attack home remedies. And it is very probable that you'll feel tempted to buy one of them. No one likes being forced to take corticosteroids on a daily basis and an alternative, sometimes any alternative is always welcome. If effective asthma attack home remedies were really available at your drug store, of course you would buy them.

Do you see a logical problem there? Home remedies are by definition not bought, so avoid buying "asthma attack home remedies". If you're going to take some pills, make sure that you really know what's inside them.

But the fact that some people try to sell asthma attack home remedies doesn't mean that there are no remedies beside advanced chemistry. There are some that can not only prevent, but also stop an asthma attack. Such home remedies can be easily used as a support for a standard treatment, especially in case of mild asthma, but they should never replace standard medications.

Below there are a few asthma and asthma attack home remedies. Some of them work wekk, some of them are just "supposed" to work, but fortunately all of them are completely safe. Generally, all of them are different methods of warming your airways. This often prevents or helps during an asthma attack.

Hot bathroom

During an asthma attack, some people run into their bathroom, close the door and try to create as much warm steam as possible. Alternatively, they have a very hot bath or try some similar home remedy. The increased air temperature eases the attack and makes breathing much easier, though if you don't suffer from asthma, we might think just the opposite.

Of course if your asthma is severe, it is recommended to use your inhaler or nebulizer instead of any asthma attack home remedies.

Hot water or coffee

Another common acne home remedy is drinking hot coffee, tea or plain hot water. On their way down, these drinks warm the airways and can ease the attack. The mechanism of these asthma attack home remedies is similar to the hot bathroom ones, but they are much easier to apply. The only problem is that during an acute attack this might be not enough.

Yes, asthma attack home remedies may seem simple, but often they are very effective.

We will first asses the most common causes of allergic reactions:

1.) Dust: Dust does not so much cause an allergic reaction on its own but rather the inhaling of dust causes discomfort in the respiratory system, leading to coughing and wheezing.

Dust is not so easy to get rid of as it sounds. a simple sweeping of the floor wouldn't have the significant effect required. What is rather recommend is using the natural combination of hot water and lemons to wipe the floor and a good vacuum cleaner.

Always keep in mind that if an asthma attack occurs after eating a particular fruit it is not coincidental, a lot of products such as candy bars, aerated drinks and such have a very high amount of preservatives, always remember to put two and two together whenever such a reaction occurs.

4.) Avoid Humidity: It is easy for infections to be caught in humid environments, try to ensure your rooms are air-conditioned to ensure a cool and dry home. germs tend to die in colder places.

The Definition of Chronic Asthma

Asthma is a disease of the lungs where the there is widespread inflammation or saddening narrowing of the bronchial tubes.

Asthma currently can be divided into 4 types according to the National Institute of Health. The 4 types are mild intermittent, mild persistent, moderate persistent and severe persistent. Asthma sufferers that fall into the severe persistent range category have chronic asthma.

So let's talk about the peak flow rate. For mild intermittent and mild persistent asthma, their peak flow rate is more than 80 percent of normal. Moderate persistent is between 60 to 80 percent. Chronic asthma has a peak flow rate of below 60 percent. Chronic asthma is a severe form of asthma.

The symptoms for this type of asthma also differ from the other three categories. Unlike people who fall into the first three categories, people that suffer from this type of asthma have daily recurrent symptoms of asthma which is characterized by breathlessness, sudden tightness of the chest and wheezing sounds. Sometimes wheezing sounds cannot be heard at all if the bronchial tubes have been almost sealed completely and air can't even pass through the lungs.

Many people that suffer from this type of asthma have been hospitalized before with the required assistance of a respirator. Whereby people suffering from mild and moderate asthma can reverse their symptoms on inhaled medications alone, asthmatics requires the need of preventive medication like oral corticosteroid courses.

Even the inhaler that severe asthmatics use is different. Asthma sufferer sometimes requires the need of nebulizers. A nebulizer is a device that is used to rapidly deliver aerosol medication containing beta adrenergic agonist. Unlike a metered dose inhaler (MDI), a nebulizer does not require good inhaling techniques and all it requires is normal breathing. A nebulizer also delivers a greater quantity of medication compared to a MDI. However, a nebulizer is more expensive than a MDI.

The treatment strategy for chronic asthma differs from age to age. The purpose of a treatment strategy so that the sufferer can lead a normal lifestyle and make the lungs function properly. Most physicians will usually take a step by step approach to treat severe asthma.

First step is to always to control the symptoms and to stabilize the lungs. This will often require a high dosage of inhaled corticosteroids and long acting beta agonist. After the patient condition has stabilized, the next step will to be slowly reduced the dosage of the medication used so as to reduce the side effects of the medication.
